Shayna Held was hired in January 2020 as an assistant track and field coach. She will assist head coach James Lemieux with all facets of the program, including day-to-day operations, scouting, recruiting, as well as meet and practice preparation.
One of the newest additions to the Utica staff, Held brings with her an outstanding reputation throughout the region as a multi-event athlete. During a decorated career at SUNY Geneseo, she was a four-time All-American with two-time honors in the women’s outdoor heptathlon. She was fifth in that event in 2017, and fourth in 2018. Held is also an All-American in the indoor pentathlon with a seventh place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2018. The Wantagh, NY native impressively coupled that with a sixth place finish in the women’s 4x400 meter relay to also become an All-American in that discipline.
She is a seven time SUNYAC Champion, and a thirteen time All-Region honoree. The versatile athlete competed in eighteen different events over her collegiate career. She was also a USTFCCCA All-Academic selection.
Held graduated from Geneseo in May 2019 with a degree in Business Administration, with minors in Marketing and Art History. Following the completion of her undergraduate degree, Held spent the fall semester at North Central College as a graduate assistant before returning to her home state with Utica.
Held currently resides in Utica, and will be pursuing a Master of Business Administration degree at Utica.
