Utica, NY (4/29/13)  -  Senior Ben Winkler of the Utica College men’ s lacrosse team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for his efforts on the field this past week.

Winkler netted a team high three goals on Wednesday in the Pioneers 10-5 loss to Hamilton College in the third annual Contineer Cup. He bounced back in a key Empire 8 Conference matchup on Saturday as he tallied two goals on the day, the second of which was the game-winning goal in double overtime that punched Utica’s ticket to the conference tournament for the first time in program-history. 

Winkler leads all Pioneers in total points with 49 off a team-high 39 goals to go along with ten assists. He has also recorded a team-best 157 shots (81 on goal) this season. Winkler became just the third player in program-history to pass the 100 goal mark after scoring in a 10-9 overtime win over Misericordia back on Mar. 29.

The Pioneers head to host Nazareth College on Wednesday, May 1 for the first round of the Empire 8 Conference Tournament, game time is set for 4 p.m.
