Junior defender MacKenzie Roy, of the Utica College women’s hockey team, was named female Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 16.

Roy helped the Pioneers snap a two-game losing streak Friday night as she netted two first period goals, only 25 seconds apart, to break open the scoring against Nichols College. UC went on to win 5-1 and closed out a four game road trip with a 2-2 record.

In 12 games played this season, Roy leads all defensemen in scoring with nine points on three goals and six assists. Six of her nine points were tallied in pivotal conference games. She accompanies a defensive unit that has killed 62-of-72 power-plays, good enough for a kill percentage of .861%.

The Pioneers return to action Sunday, Jan. 23 as they host Williams College at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. The puck is scheduled to drop at 3 p.m. UC beat Williams back on Dec. 8, 3-1, in Williamstown, MA.
