Patrick Coughlin was hired in Spring 2021 as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach at Utica University. He will be responsible for all facets of the program including athlete recruitment and retention, match and tournament preparation, scheduling, and skill development.
The 2020 graduate returns to the college after receiving his degree in Business Management.
One of the most gifted and talented golfers Utica has ever seen, he was a 2018-2019 first team all-conference selection after placing fifth with a four-round total of 307 at that year’s Empire 8 Championships, a tournament in which the Pioneers were an impressive fourth. In his regular season career, he was a multiple-time tournament medalist and won tournaments at Elmira, Utica and Keuka in his final season. He also earned multiple Empire 8 Men’s Golf Player of the Week nods during his career and was a routine threat to score close to even par, especially later in his time with the team.
His work as a player, and as a team captain, set the standard that ultimately helped Utica go on to win the Empire 8 Fall Championship in 2019.
Away from competition with Utica, Coughlin has become a firm challenger on the local amateur scene. He qualified for the 2018 and 2019 New York State Amateur Championships.
Outside of golf, Coughlin has held positions locally with Enterprise, Mark Kotary’s Hockey Supply, and the Yahnundasis Golf Club. He was also a golf operations assistant at Arcadian Shores Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Coughlin is from nearby New Hartford, NY.
