THREE UNANSWERED GOALS LIFT PIONEERS TO COME FROM BEHIND VICTORY

Senior Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) netted a game-winning penalty kick in the 75th minute to lift the Utica College men's soccer team to a 3-2, come from behind, victory over McDaniel College at the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament host by Penn State Behrend Sunday. The Pioneers fell behind 2-0 in the first 25 minutes of the contest, but responded in the second half with three goals in a span of 6:18 to help even UC's record up at 1-1 on the year. David Garcia (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and DJ Ilebani (Abuja, Nigeria/Intl. School of Kenya) each netted goals to pace the Pioneers.

Utica fended off an early scare with three consecutive goals starting with a tally from senior midfielder David Garcia (Fairport, NY/Fairport) at 69:19. Classmate Kyle Tassone (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) assisted on Garcia's first goal of the year. Just over three minutes later the Pioneers' knotted the contest up at 2-2 when DJ Ilebani (Abuja, Nigeria/Intl. School of Kenya), who led UC in scoring one year ago, netted his first goal of the season at 72:34. Sguelia assisted Ilebani for his fourth point of the young season.

The Pioneers dominated play all game, out shooting McDaniel 30-9, and it was only a matter of time before the shots started to find the back of the net for UC. The Pioneers also earned a 7-2 corner kick advantage.

Freshman goalie Andrew Boniche (Trumbull, CT/St. Luke's) stopped three shots to earn his first collegiate victory.

The Pioneers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Cazenovia College to take on the Wildcats in non conference play. The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
