Allen Breaks School Record as Pioneers Fall

OSWEGO, NY- The Utica College volleyball team dropped a pair of games on the second day of the Oswego State Invitational Saturday as it fell to Sage College 3-1, before dropping a 3-0 decision to SUNY Canton. Senior Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) broke the school record for career assists as she now has 1,559 assists.
 
Utica 1, Sage 3- Game One Final
Sage took the first two games 25-9 and 25-16, respectively, before the Pioneers battled back to win the third set 27-25.  The rally fell short, however, as the Gators rebounded to win the fourth set 25-14. 
 
Freshman Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) matched her season high of 13 kills as she led the Pioneer attack.  Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) combined for 12 kills on the game.  Allen chipped in with 26 assists, while classmate Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) totaled an impressive 27 digs.  Voss added 12 digs of her own, while Andreana Kroup (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville) had 11 digs. 
 
Utica 0, SUNY Canton3- Game Two Final
SUNY Canton improved to 11-2 on the year as it picked up its second victory over Utica in a week.  Laura Homer-Gunther (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and Hannah Voss (St. Louis, MO/Oakville) each had seven kills, while Blaszak totaled five.
 
Lora Allen (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) led UC with 24 assists, and Alexis Lyon (Prospect, NY/Holland Patent) totaled 16 digs on defense.  Leah Octave (New Windsor, NY/Cornwall) was second on the squad with 11 digs, while Voss chipped in with 10. 
Junior Brandi Blaszak (Marcy, NY/Whitesboro) was named to the All-Tournament team for her impressive performance on the weekend.

The Pioneers wrap up their road trip on Tuesday as they travel across town to take on SUNY Poly. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
