UTICA, NY - Utica University's men's wrestling team is set to compete in the New York State Collegiate Wrestling Championship. The event will be held at SRC Arena in Syracuse tomorrow, November 22nd. Action is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am.
Last Time Out: Utica went 2-1 at last week's quad, earning decisive wins over Elmira (38-15) and Jamestown (41-18) around a competitive setback to Pitt-Bradford. The Pioneers opened with strong bonus production, highlighted by a major from
Rian Kirker (Red Hook, NY/Red Hook) and a fall from
Seth Richardson (Fort Plain, NY/Fort Plain) to cap the Elmira dual. Despite wins from
Caden Beecher (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley), Richardson, and
Jiovanni Chambers (Ronkonkoma, NY/Holy Trinity Diocese), Pitt-Bradford capitalized on key swings to take the middle match.
Utica answered with a commanding performance against Jamestown, collecting six bonus-point victories to close the day.
Matt Bonato (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) delivered a 17–0 tech fall at 157, and Beecher, Kirker, Richardson, and
Nuallan King (Pen Argyl, PA/Pen Argyl Area High School) all added pins as the Pioneers controlled the tempo throughout. Richardson finished a perfect 3–0 with three falls between 174 and 184, earning Empire 8 Wrestler of the Week recognition.
Up Next: The team will return to action two weekends from now, on December 6th. RIT will host an Invitational at their Gordon Field House, with action set to begin at 9:00 am.
