Forest Stewart was hired in March 2021 as an assistant track and field and cross country coach. He will assist head coach James Lemieux with all facets of the program, including day-to-day operations, scouting, recruiting, as well as meet and practice preparation.
He will work primarily with the distance runners on the track, along with the cross country program.Â
Stewart comes to Utica after a sterling career at Ithaca College. The 2020 graduate is no stranger to the Empire 8, as he was a part of Ithaca’s 2016 Empire 8 Cross Country Championship team. He was named a second team All-Conference selection in Cross Country, and was also a part of Ithaca’s 2017 E8 Indoor Track and Field Championship team before the Bombers left for the Liberty League.
From his sophomore to senior seasons, he was a multiple-time All-Atlantic region selection in the sport of Cross Country, and was a three-time Liberty League All-Conference selection with two second team selections, and an honorable mention selection. In his senior cross country season, Stewart led Ithaca to its first NCAA Men’s XC Nationals appearance in over 20 years, and went on to place 117th in the individual competition.
Away from the track and trails, Stewart worked at Ithaca College as an office assistant. He also interned at Tompkins County Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources, an organization which advocates for the rights of those who are incarcerated at Tompkins County Jail and provides those individuals with avenues for long-term success.
He received his degree from Ithaca in Politics, and is currently pursuing his Master's degree here at UC. He resides in Utica.Â
