Jason Rose was named head coach of the Utica College Track & Field and Cross Country teams in the Winter of 2008. His responsibilities include overseeing all facets of six programs including the Men’s and Women’s Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field teams as well as the College’s Men’s and Women’s Cross Country programs. During his recent tenure at UC, Rose has named 158 All-Conference selections, led seven Pioneers to Empire 8 Athlete of the Meet status, guided eight national qualifiers to nine events and earned 2013 Empire 8 Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year.
Rose is coming of one of his best overall seasons as the Pioneer general after leading three Pioneers to four NCAA events including a school-record three during the outdoor season. He led junior Sarah Wiatr (triple jump) to consecutive outings during the indoor and outdoor seasons along with junior Rob Tutein (high jump) and sophomore Nicodemus Gambill (100m) in the outdoor campaign. Rose guided 12 All-Conference selections (six indoor, six outdoor) this past season including six first-team mentions and several Pioneers to record breaking status (school and personal). Tutein was named USTFCCCA All-American after finishing fourth at nationals marking Utica College’s best finish in program-history at the big show. Wiatr placed seventh in the outdoor season at national's marking her best finish in four outings at NCAA's. Gambill shattered two Empire 8 and school-records at the E8 Outdoor Championships en route to E8 Athlete of the Meet honors.
In the 2013-2014 season, he guided four Pioneers to Nationals including back-to-back outings for Sarah Wiatr in the women’s triple jump. In the Fall ’13 Ashton Villeneuve became the first-ever national qualifier in women’s cross country followed by Wiatr in the Winter “14 for the NCAA Indoor Championships and then Wiatr and freshman Rayshawn Scott (triple jump) in the Spring of 2014 at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
He led both the men and women cross country teams to record performances on the course. Sophomore standout Ashton Villeneuve, of women’s squad, placed 181st out of 279 runners at the 2013 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in Hanover, Indiana. Villeneuve, who was the first runner in program-history to qualify for the national championships, finished with a time of 23:13.0. The All-Region and E8 First Team selection placed 10
th out of 269 racers at the North Atlantic Regionals.
He guided the men’s cross country squad to its best finish in program-history with a second place tally at the 2013 Empire 8 Championships, placing four Pioneers on the All-Conference Team. UC placed five student-athletes in the top 25 registering a score of 62 and a team-time of 26:52, just .10 off the champion Ithaca (44 points).
On the track, he guided senior Shane Ruffing to Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Year, freshman Rayshawn Scott to Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year along with leading Sarah Wiatr to back-to-back national championships (Indoor, Outdoor) and Scott to the NCAA Outdoor Championships in his first season. He also placed an impressive 14 student-athletes (seven men, seven women) on the Empire 8 All-Conference Teams.
In 2012-2013, Coach Rose and his coaching staff had another record-setting year from the Fall through the Spring season with teams and individual's breaking records, both school and personal, in several events. In the Fall, Rose guided the men and women cross country teams to two of the program’s top finishes in school-history at the Empire 8 Conference Championships. After an early season victory at Cobleskill by both squads, UC followed up at SPAC on Oct. 27 at the conference championships with impressive outings. The women posted a program-best second place finish with 75 points while the men tallied third place for the fourth-consecutive season.

Rose guided 15 student-athletes to All-Conference status in 2012-2013 including five members from the cross-country teams (3 women, 2 men) and 10 (7 men, 3 women) from the track and field squads. In the classroom, his men and women cross country as well as women’s track and field teams were three of the record-setting 16 program's that had a combined grade point average of a 3.0 or better including three members honored on the President’s List.
The previous year, he guided senior track stand out Joe Pruckno to his third consecutive All-American honor in as many seasons. Pruckno tallied sixth place finish as the two traveled to Claremont, CA for the 2012 NCAA DIII Outdoor Championships. He guided both the men and women track and field teams along with the cross country teams to second and third place finishes at both the Empire 8 T & F and XC Championships. He led the women track and field teams to a second place finish and the women cross country team to a third place finish while leading the men track and field teams to third place and the men cross country team to a second place tally.
Rose also placed an impressive 23 total student-athletes on All-Conference teams while the women cross-country team earned NCAA DIII All-Academic Team accolades.
In 2011, Coach Rose guided hurdlers Joe Pruckno and Jess Ciraulo to a remarkable year as they were rewarded with an invitation to the NCAA DIII Championships for the first time in program-history. Pruckno finished sixth at the NCAA's as he earned All-American status.

He guided the indoor and outdoor track and field teams to five third place finishes with the most impressive coming at the Empire 8 Championships for both the men and women teams. He also led the cross country teams to four third place finishes and a victory at Cobleskill on Sept. 11.
Prior to Utica, Rose spent three years, as the assistant coach of Cross Country, Track & Field at Division II Tiffin University and Heidelberg University. He handled the training schedules, recruiting duties and other aspects of collegiate coaching while at both universities. In his time coaching in Ohio, Rose compiled a number of achievements including coaching Two National Champions (Long Jump and 55m Dash), Ohio Cross Country Runner of the Year 2006, several All-Americans, as well as team and individual National Qualifiers. During his time at Heidelberg University, Rose and his fellow coaching staff also won Ohio Athletic Conference Coaching Staff of the Year honors.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in secondary mathematics education from Wilmington College in 2002. Rose also ran track & field all four years at Wilmington College earning Heartland Collegiate Athletic All-Conference Honors. As a student-athlete, he earned individual recognition as a Top 25 All-Ohio cross country runner and he is a former Wilmington College indoor track record holder.
Immediately following graduation from Wilmington he accepted a position as the assistant Track & Field and Cross Country Coach at Washington Court House High School. In three seasons at Washington Court House he helped set a number of conference records as well as coaching the school’s first girl’s regional cross country appearance. After three years at WCH, he accepted a graduate assistant coaching position at Heidelberg University where he completed his master’s degree in education in 2008. Jason has a USA Track and Field Level One and Two Coach’s certification and is a member of the United States Track & Field Coaches Association.
A graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School in his home town of Tiffin, OH, Rose currently resides in South Utica.
