Utica College Athletic Director David Fontaine has announced the hiring of Suneed Ahmed as an Athletic Assistant for the Pioneers’ cross country program.

Ahmed will work directly under first-year head coach Sam Catterson, while also assisting with Utica College's track & field program as well.
“I’m really excited to step in as the new Athletic Assistant for Utica College’s cross country and track teams,” Ahmed said. “The program has had a decent amount of success so far, and I hope to help improve on that and help take the program further.”

The Round Lake, Illinois native graduated from Carthage College in May, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise and Sports Science. He was also a four-year student-athlete for the cross country team and indoor and outdoor track.

Ahmed thrived right off the bat at Carthage, being named the team’s Most Valuable Freshman in 2015. He continued to improve throughout his career as a Torchie, earning the Most Improved Runner award his sophomore year and the Most Dedicated Runner Award his senior season.

Ahmed also received cross country first-team honors from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin as a sophomore and junior as well.
While Ahmed’s main focus during his tenure at Carthage was as a student-athlete, he also served as a work study coaching assistant for the cross country and indoor and outdoor track programs. In this role, Ahmed assisted in recruiting efforts, created travel itineraries for away meets and assisted with meet operations and fundraising events.
