Utica College Aquatics Director Erin Knight announced the hiring of new assistant coach Kacey Centrella in the Summer of 2011. Centrella will contribute heavily with all facets of the men's and women's swim/dive and water polo programs. She will assist Coach Knight with recruiting, scouting, practice management and game preparation.
Centrella is a 2008 graduate of Denison University where she earned a degree in biology. As a member of the Denison swim and dive team, Centrella was a three-time NCAC Conference women’s swimming qualifier and in her senior campaign she was the 2008 Denison University Swimming and Diving Coaches Award recipient.
Following her graduation from Denison, she worked as a marine mammal intern and trainer from 2008-2010. While working at Sea Life Park Hawaii (Waimanalo, HI) and Miami Seaquarium (Miami, FL), she assisted with the care and training of diverse marine species including dolphins, seals, sea lions, and penguins.
While competing at Boyertown High School (2000-2004), the two-time PIAA State Qualifier helped lead her high school team to a PAC-10 and District I Championship in 2003-04. As a sophomore, she was named Boyertown Area High School’s Most Valuable Player.
From 2000-2004, she was a Boyertown Area YMCA lifeguard and swim instructor. Following her time spent as a lifeguard, Centrella took on the assistant coaching duties at Boyertown Community Swim Team in Boyertown, PA.
Originally from Douglasville, PA, Kacey currently resides in Utica, NY and she is working towards her master’s degree here at UC.
