Utica, N.Y. – Junior Ben Winkler (IHC/Rodman, N.Y.) of the Utica College men's lacrosse team was named the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College's Co-Male Athlete of the Week after tying the school-record for goals in a single-game as the Pioneers trounced Cazenovia 18-10 on Saturday. Winkler's eight goal performance tied Head Coach Mike Parnell's school record, which he set back in 2000 in a game against Susquehanna.
Winkler scored seven of his career-best eight goals in the first half of Saturday's victory. He now leads the undefeated Pioneers with a team-best nine goals this season, to go along with four caused turnovers, and two ground balls.
Over the course of 32 career games Winkler has a total of 48 points (39 goals and nine assists). He also has 34 career ground balls and 12 caused turnovers on his resume.
The Pioneers (2-0) have outscored their opponents 36-11 in their first two contests and they figure to face their first true test of the season on Tuesday as they travel to the Philadelphia area to take on Eastern University (2-2) at 3:30 p.m. Fans who cannot make it out to the contest can follow all of the action live online: LIVE VIDEO --- LIVE STATS.
