Frank Murphy has been named a Pioneer Athlete of the Week for the week of February 2nd, 2026. This is Murphy's first career Pioneer honor.Â
Murphy was almost unbeatable during Saturday's series sweep over St. John Fisher, as the rookie netminder nearly shut out the Cardinals over the span of both matchups. The Pioneer goaltender moved his winning streak to five games thanks to a pair of 7-1 and 4-0 victories this past weekend, allowing just a single goal in 120 minutes of ice time. Murphy logged 44 saves in the two-game set, posting a .978 save percentage and even securing the Pioneers' third shutout of the season in the Saturday road showdown. The Mississauga native helped stall three opposing power plays by the Cardinals, routinely making stellar stops at the back post as he guarded all sides of the net. Thanks to his otherworldly weekend, Murphy decreased his season goals allowed average to 1.51, and boosted his season save percentage to .930. The freshman phenom has hit his stride since the turn of the new year, having a 5-0 record in 2026.
Murphy and the men's hockey team will attempt to sustain their recent win streak this weekend against Elmira College, heading to the MAC on Friday before taking the ice at the Nexus Center on Saturday. Both games begin at 7:00 PM.Â
