Utica, NY (12/9/13)- Aaron Nevins of the Utica College men’s basketball team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week on Monday.
The speedy junior guard from Buffalo had a career day in the Pioneers’ home opener, dropping a career-high 32 points on SUNY Canton in a 103-86 win. He finished the night shooting 11-of-16 from the field and missed just two free throws in 12 attempts. Nevins’ outburst helped the Pioneers continue their streak of scoring at least 80 points in every game this season, and also helped UC reach triple digits for the first time in seven years. The last such occurrence happened on November 17, 2006. It is the first 100 point effort of Chris Connolly’s tenure as head coach.
On the season, Nevins has shouldered the load for the Pioneer offense in the absence of preseason All-American Connor Maisch. Nevins averages 21.8 points, 4.5 assists, and chips in on the glass with 4.2 rebounds. His scoring average ranks second in the Empire 8 conference.
UC wraps up its fall schedule on Monday night as it hosts Union College. Tip time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
