Jon Gaffney of the Utica College men’s ice hockey team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week on Monday.

The senior from Dover, New Jersey helped lead the nationally-ranked 9/8 Pioneers to a win and a tie this weekend by scoring three goals in two games.

On Friday against UW-Stout, Gaffney had a goal in the first and second periods in a 4-2 victory over the Blue Devils. In the championship game on Saturday against Oswego, Gaffney scored early in the third period to help the Pioneers take a 2-1 lead. The Lakers would tie the game and eventually win in a shootout to take the title. Gaffney was named to the All-Tournament team along with teammate Steve Zappia.

Gaffney has four goals and six assists in 12 games season, increasing his career totals to 41 goals and 43 assists (84 points), good for fifth all-time at UC. Gaffney now has nine career outings where he has netted at least two goals in a single game.
