UTICA, NY (1/13/2014) - Freshman forward Victoria Pelton of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the Utica College Female Athlete of the Week after an impressive performance over the weekend.

Pelton netted a career-high two goals, just 1:54 apart, to lead the Pioneers to a 4-1 victory over visiting Manhattanville on Sunday afternoon. With the score knotted at 0-0 early in the second period, Pelton exploded with two straight goals to help the Pioneers earn the early momentum against the Valiants. Her second goal proved to be the game-winner. Pelton headed into the afternoon with just one collegiate goal.

The Pioneers went 1-1 at home this past weekend. They were tied 2-2 against nationally-ranked Norwich with 4:22 left in the game, but the Cadets pushed in two goals before the final horn sounded to earn the two goal victory over UC. Utica rebounded on Sunday as it topped Manhattanville 4-1.

UC has won nine of its last ten games and improved to 9-3 overall on the year. The Pioneers will hit the road for a two-game ECAC Women's West Conference set at Chatham University next Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game begins at 8 p.m. and Sunday's contest starts at 1 p.m.
