UTICA, NY – Freshman Kayla Dion of the Utica College women’s hockey team was named the College’s Female Athlete of the week on Monday.
In a two game series against nationally ranked No. 1 Plattsburgh State, Dion totaled three points on the weekend. On Saturday, she had two goals in the victory over the Cardinals. She scored the first goal for the Pioneers during a power-play opportunity that tied the game up 1-1 against the Cardinals. Dion finished the game scoring on an empty net to secure the victory and lift Utica to the 4-2 victory. The following day she was credited with one assist on the Pioneers’ lone goal in the second game against Plattsburgh losing 6-1.
On the season, Dion has a total of 10 points (three goals, seven assists). She has also registered at least one point in each of the last three games.
The Pioneers (16-6-1, 12-3-1 ECAC West) will host ECAC West opponent Buffalo State on Saturday and Sunday. Puck is scheduled to drop at 2 p.m. both days.
