UTICA, NY – Utica College softball player Abby Monroe was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week, Monday.

Monroe earned two wins in the circle against SUNY Poly and Skidmore College last week. She had seven strikeouts and gave up one just run in the 9-1 win over SUNY Poly. Monroe was also 2-for-2 at the plate, including her first career home run.  She carried that momentum into Friday’s 11-0 win against Skidmore College where she totaled three strikeouts and didn’t give up a run.

On the season, she is tied for third in the conference with a 1.21 ERA. She is also second in the E8 with 41 strikeouts.  Monroe recently became the first player in program history to record 300 strikeouts in a career.  She now has 301 strikeouts and a school-record 43 wins.

The Pioneers are currently 7-9 on the season and are on a four-game winning streak after sweeping both SUNY Poly and Skidmore College last week. Utica will host Union College on Wednesday for a two-game series, which is scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.
