UTICA, NY- Senior Ryan Burnett of the Utica College football team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week Monday for his performance over the weekend.
Burnett carried the ball 30 times in the Pioneers’ 24-13 win over Cortland, gaining 144 yards and scoring one touchdown. He also caught four passes for 74 yards to increase his yardage total to 218. His production out of the backfield, both rushing and receiving, was instrumental in the Pioneers’ victory. His 31-yard touchdown run on the opening drive of the second half gave Utica a two score lead, and they never looked back.
Burnett is seventh in the Empire 8 conference in rushing yards per game (68.0) and total yards (272). His 144 yards against Cortland was enough to move him into fourth place on the College’s all-time rushing list with 1,153 career rushing yards.
The Pioneers will return to action against host Ithaca College on Saturday in hopes to continue their undefeated season and improve to 5-0 for the first time in program history.
