UTICA, NY -- Senior Rebecca Plunkett of the Utica College women’s lacrosse team has been named the college’s Female Athlete of the Week for her performance in the season opener against SUNY Potsdam.
Plunkett totaled a team-best four points on three goals and one assist as Utica defeated Potsdam 12-9 in its season opener on Sunday. Plunkett also led the team five ground balls, two caused turnovers, and she had a game-high six draw controls. She now sits at second in the College’s record book with 172 career draw controls. Her four total points are good for fifth in the Empire 8 Conference.
In her career, Plunkett has 113 goals and last season, was named to the Second Team All-Conference in the Empire 8. In 2014 and 2015, she amassed 44 and 46 draw controls respectively with both marks putting her inside the top 10 for a single season in Utica College history.
The team returns to action on Wednesday for an away matchup against Skidmore College. The opening draw is scheduled for 4 p.m.
