Utica, N.Y (9/5/2011) – Senior forward Mallory Mariano (Vernon Verona Sherrill/Oneida, NY) netted her first two goals of the season Sunday to help the Utica College women’s field hockey team secure a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine at the Oneonta State Invitational. For her efforts she was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week.

Mariano also added an assist in the Pioneers’ 3-2 loss to regional power St. Lawrence University on Saturday and she currently leads the team with five points through two games.

Following her five point weekend Mariano moved into ninth place all-time on the College’s career scoring list. In 54 career games she now has 13 goals and nine assists for a total of 35 points.

The Pioneers, who are now 1-1, will return to action on Wednesday for their home-opener against Oswego State at 4:30 p.m. For those of you who cannot make it out to the game, you can follow the contest through live video or live stats at www.ucpioneers.com.
