Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center
Located behind Charles A. Gaetano Stadium, the Todd and Jen Hutton Sports and Recreation Center provides 135,000 square feet of indoor space for Utica University athletics and campus recreation. The facility officially opened on December 12, 2015, with a dedication ceremony preceding the Jen and Todd Hutton Invitational, the first home track and field meet in the University’s history.
The dome features an eight-lane, 200-meter NCAA competition track with a Connor Sports Protraxx surface, four multipurpose courts and a FieldTurf practice field. Dedicated track and field amenities include two sand pits for long jump and triple jump, two pole vault areas and multiple throwing circles. A batting cage, weight area, locker rooms, equipment checkout area, concession stand and track and field offices provide additional support for athletes and facility users.
In addition to hosting Utica’s home invitationals, the facility has welcomed conference championship competition, including the 2025 Empire 8 Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships. Men’s championship | Women’s championship
Harold “Tom” Clark Jr. and his wife, Bernadette, pledged $1.4 million toward the facility’s construction. At the April 2015 groundbreaking ceremony, Clark announced that the center would be named in honor of then-President Todd S. Hutton and his wife, Jennifer.
Measuring 270 feet wide, 500 feet long and 82 feet high, the dome uses an air-supported design to maintain its expansive interior. Two layers of Teflon-coated polyester surround a layer of insulation, while large air-handling units at each end keep the structure inflated. The facility was designed by Alesia & Crewell Architects P.C., manufactured by Yeadon and constructed by The Hayner Hoyt Corporation.
