The Utica College men's soccer team went on the road and defeated local rival SUNY IT, 3-1, in non-conference play Sunday. This win marks the fourth consecutive contest the Pioneers have won since losing their season opener.

The Pioneers (4-1-0) got off to a quick start as Roberto Sgueglia (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen) headed home his third goal of the season off a direct kick from Kevin McAllister (Boxford, MA/Masconomet Regional) 1:33 into the game to put the Pioneers up 1-0. UC continued to build momentum as Jonathan Peterson scored his first goal of the season, unassisted at 17:40 to give Utica a 2-0 lead.

That score would hold until late in the second half when Peterson added his second goal of the day after receiving a pass from DJ Ilebani (Abuja, Nigeria/Intl. School of Kenya) and putting the ball into the net to make it 3-0 in favor of the visiting team at 87:28.

SUNY IT (2-3-0) finally scored a goal with less than a minute to go as Mario Gomez was able to capitalize on a direct kick unassisted to make the score 3-1.

Pioneers' goalkeeper Anthony Caruso (Easton, CT/Joel Barlow) stopped six out of seven shots on goal while his counterpart, Malick Faye had one save out of two shots on goal. The Pioneers had six corner kick opportunities while SUNY IT had three. The Pioneers were out shot however, 10-6.

UC's next game will be on Wednesday September 15th at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium as the Pioneers host Skidmore. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
