UTICA, NY – Senior Matt Rogers (East Syracuse, NY/Bishop Ludden) of the Utica College men's tennis team was named to the 2016 Empire 8 Men's Tennis All-Conference Sportsman of the Year Team. This marks the second straight year that Rogers has earned Sportsman of the Year in men's tennis.

Rogers led the Pioneers in singles victories and was 7-4 on the year. He won six singles matches in a row and was 6-1 in the final seven singles matches of the season. He also added two doubles victories throughout the season.

At the end of his four-year career at UC, Rogers had 22 singles victories and nine doubles victories.  Over his career Rogers guided the Pioneers to nine victories scoring both a singles and doubles victory in seven of the nine wins.

Rogers was named the Sportsman of the Year for what the conference states as "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding student-athletes.

The Pioneers concluded their season with a 1-10 overall mark.
