Utica, NY – The Utica College women's tennis team earned its first victory of the season on Wednesday, as it took down Delhi on the road, 7-2. The Pioneers are now 1-9 overall and 0-7 in Empire 8 play.
Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) and
Rebecca Bruce (St. Johnsville, NY/Oppenheim-Ephatah-St. Johnsville) paired together in the second doubles flight, winning the set 8-4 to earn the match point. In third doubles, UC's duo of
Elma Selimovic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) and
Selma Ahmetasevic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) teamed up for an 8-1 win for another match point for the squad.
Christa Pham (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor) defeated Delhi's Jessica Biller 6-2, 6-1 in the third singles flight.
Bianca Bockhaus (Shenorock, NY/Somers) won the third set tiebreaker, 11-9, to earn a match point in second singles. Teammates
Elma Selimovic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor),
Selma Ahmetasevic (Utica, NY/T.R. Proctor), and
Rebecca Bruce (St. Johnsville, NY/Oppenheim-Ephatah-St. Johnsville) all registered match points in singles play by winning the tiebreaking set.
The UC and SUNY Delhi matchup this season is now tied 1-1 as both teams defeated one another on the road.
The Pioneers are back in action this weekend as they play host to the Houghton Highlanders for the team's final E8 matchup of the year on Saturday, before closing out the season at Oswego on Sunday. The matches are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. and 12 p.m. respectively.
