Utica, NY – The Utica College men's tennis team host Hartwick for some Empire 8 competition on Wednesday. The Hawks swept the match, winning 9-0. The Pioneers drop to 0-5 on the year, while Hartwick improves to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the conference.
Paul Litvak (Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) and
Maki Medici (Watervliet, NY/Shaker), also teammate on the UC football team, dropped their set in first doubles play, 8-2. The duo of
Alfonzo Whitehurst (Baldwinsville, NY/Baldwinsville) and
Matthew Fisher (Amityville, NY/Massapequa) were also stumped in their doubles match-up with an 8-1 loss.
Litvak played well in the first singles slot, but eventually fell in two sets 6-3, 6-4 to Hartwick's John Talbot. The freshman Medici was taken down in second singles dropping the first set 6-3 and the second 6-2.
The Pioneers are looking for their first win of the season and have a trio of matches lined up for the weekend. The team will play host to Oswego Friday (3:30p.m.) and Houghton Saturday (1p.m.), before meeting Oswego again on the road Sunday (1p.m.).
