UTICA, NY - Three athletes with ties to the Utica College Track and Field program completed the men's heptathlon as action wrapped up at the UC Holiday Classic on Sunday. With
Andrew Wieder (Clinton, NY/Clinton) topping the board among college competitors, the Pioneers collected ten team points to improve to a final total of 78 points, which keeps the team in third place in the final standings.
Chase Pecoraro (Medina, NY/Medina) helmed up the final standings with a strong effort of 4,018 points while competing as an unattached athlete. He was tops in the high jump, 60 meter hurdles, and pole vault over the two-day competition.
Wieder placed second as the top collegiate athlete in the competition with a total of 3,866 points. He rounded out the proceedings by putting his cross country training to good use with a win at 1,000 meters in 2:59, which was good for 671 points. He also eclipsed 600 points in the high jump and 60 meter dash. It was Wieder's indoor heptathlon debut at Utica.
Assistant Coach
Sam Catterson was third with a total of 2,913 points. He was the competition's leading shot putter, earning 502 points on a 10.27 meter throw. His 537 points earned in the 1,000 meters was the highest total he earned in an event over the two days.
Utica will host the Utica Winter Opener meet on Saturday, January 15th.
