BUFFALO, NY - The Utica University men's tennis team started the new season on a high note after an 8-1 win over Medaille College on Saturday afternoon.
The Pioneers swept doubles action thanks to an 8-5 win from
Damian Bruce (Gloversville, NY/Gloversville)/
LJ Nuzzo (Peru, NY/Peru Central), and 8-2 win from the
Austin McGrain (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Mendon )/
Ethan Trembley (Schenectady, NY/La Salle Institute) duo and an 8-1 win from
Gaynay Doo (Utica, NY/Proctor ) and
Bradley Litz (West Winfield, NY/Mt. Markham ).
In first singles, Bruce swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0 before Nuzzo claimed singles two 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. McGrain took singles three 6-4, 7-5 while Trembley won by default after 3-6, 6-3 and 2-2 scores. Litz ended the afternoon with a win in singles six, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.
Utica (1-0) will open Empire 8 action at St. John Fisher on Saturday, Apr. 2 at 1 p.m.
