Rochester, NY - The Utica University Track and Field team had a pair of podium finishes in Friday's competition as the squad competed at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships hosted by Nazareth College. Both squads are tenth in the team competition with eight points at the end of the first day.
As they did with their conference titles last week, Jane Fahy and Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) turned in two of the team's top performances in the shot put. The duo came through with a pair of runner-up finishes for the program's only points finishes of the day. Logan finished second with a strong 15.30 meter toss on his sixth and final attempt. Fahy was the women's second place finisher with a 12.90 meter performance. Each earned eight team points.
Elsewhere, Daijon Richards (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) and Josh Washington turned in solid runs in the 60 meters, but came up short of the finals. Richards was thirteenth in a time of 7.11, and Washington placed sixteenth with a clocking of 7.14.
Laura Meade was thirteenth in the triple jump at 10.86 meters.
Andrew Wieder (Clinton, NY/Clinton) is off to a strong start in the men's heptathlon, scoring 2,422 points to rank in third through four of the seven events. He broke his long jump PR three times en route to a 6.21 final mark to place fourth in that event and pick up 632 points. He also tied his personal best in the shot put to pick up 495 points.
Day two action picks up at 10 a.m. at Nazareth's Golisano Training Center.
