ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University Track and Field Teams finished competition at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships on Saturday. The Utica men placed fifteenth in the team competition with fifteen points, while the Utica women tied for fourteenth with fourteen points at the meet held at Nazareth's Golisano Training Center.
Andrew Wieder (Clinton, NY/Clinton) stole the show for the Pioneers on day two with a convincing career-best in the heptathlon to place third. He had personal bests in the pole vault (3.63 meters), 60 hurdles (9.88) and 1,000 meters (2:54.84) to finish with a career-best point total of 4,219 points and place third. Wieder won the 1,000 meters during the event.
In the sprints, Mackenzie Mix was sixth in the women's 200 meters with a clocking of 26.31 seconds. She doubled in the 400 meters as well, finishing tenth with a time of 1:01.13. Joshua Washington (Centereach, NY/Centereach) was seventeenth at 200 meters in a time of 23.11 seconds.
In the jumps, Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) placed eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.97 meters, while Maikya Donnelly was sixth with the bar set at 1.55 meters. Both athletes landed on the podium.
Josh Washington was 20th in the long jump with a 6.05 meter mark, while Laura Meade was also 20th with a top mark of 4.71 meters.
In the throws, Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) was fifteenth in the men's weight throw with a top mark of 15.35 meters. Gabrielle DeSanctis was sixteenth with a 13.96 meter performance.
The Pioneers now await their opportunity to send representatives to the NCAA championships next week. That announcement is expected before 7 p.m. Sunday.
