ROCHESTER, NY - Sunday's meet got off to an earlier start than expected, but the Utica University track and field program was ready to go once the gun went off at the ROC Final Qualifier hosted by Nazareth College.
No team scores were kept at the meet.
Laura Meade led all on-track performers by improving on her previous school record in the 400 hurdles. Her time of 1:05.04 was quick enough for third and stands just outside of the top 50 nationally.
Daijon Richards (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) continued his consistent form at 100 meters as he stood just shy of his personal best with a first place time of 10.76 seconds. Meade was seventh in the preliminaries of the women's 100 meters with a solid time of 12.79, but did not contest the finals.
Hayden Lohmann (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) checked in at 19th in the men's 800 meters with a time of 2:07.79.
Michael Roberts (Remsen, NY/Remsen) set a new personal best in the men's 1,500 meters with a time of 4:12.91.
The men's 4x100 team of Ka'Sean Watlington (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Bluepoint), Josh Washington, Daijon Richards (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon), and Michael Campbell was third with a time of 42.27.
In the field, the throws took center stage.
Nathan Florian and Antwan Kelly (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) placed fourth and fifth in the men's discus while also setting personal bests. Florian put down a mark of 45.48, while Kelly put down a mark of 43.60 meters. Kelly led Utica in the men's hammer throw with a 10th place finish at a distance of 43.66 meters.
Jane Fahy was eighth in the women's discus with a performance of 35.22 meters and second in the women's shot put at 12.77 meters.
In the men's shot put, Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) led the Utica contingent with a sixth place finish and a mark of 15.02 meters.
In the javelin, Chase Pecoraro (Medina, NY/Medina) placed seventh with a 49.28 meter toss to lead the men's group, while Kurstan Martin was seventh in the women's competition at 29.93.
In the jumps, Josh Washington was seventh in the men's long jump as he hit the sand at 6.51 meters.
The Pioneers compete at the AARTFC meet hosted by Moravian on Wednesday and Thursday.
