BETHLEHEM, PA - The Utica University track and field teams had a remarkable second day of competition at the All-Atlantic Region Track and Field Championships hosted by Moravian University. The Pioneers men tied for ninth in the team competition with 27 points, and the Pioneer women were 23rd with 9 points.
Two school records fell over the course of the afternoon.
Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) secured his long-awaited outdoor school record in the men's shot put. The first year Pioneer muscled out a 16.52 meter performance on his second attempt to claim the regional championship, write his name atop the program's all-time list, and move himself up to sixth in the nation. Thursday's performance provides the indoor All-American with assurance that he will be competing at next week's NCAA Championships in Geneva, Ohio. All-American Keanu Heedram held the previous school record mark of 16.38 meters, as set during the 2019 Outdoor season.
Laura Meade broke her own school record in the 400 hurdles for a third consecutive meet. Her latest time of 1:03.89 breaks her previous mark by over a second, and was good enough for a seventh place finish in a challenging field. She will wrap up her season ranked 34th in the nation in an event she had never contested in college prior to this season.
Jane Fahy had another quality performance in the shot put to claim a third place finish. A 12.88 meter toss on her third attempt netted six of Utica's nine points in the team standings.
In the men's long jump, Ka'Sean Watlington (Bayport, NY/Bayport-Bluepoint) placed sixth with a jump of 7.19.
Daijon Richards (Mount Vernon, NY/Mount Vernon) was third in the men's 100 meters as he laid down a time of 10.77 seconds. He was just four hundredths of a second off his personal best time.
The men's 4x100 meter relay team of Richards, Watlington, Josh Washington, and Michael Campbell placed seventh. They got the stick around the track surface in 42.27 seconds.
Mackenzie Mix was tenth in the 400 meters with a time of 57.62 seconds.
The NCAA Championship field will be announced on Friday evening. Logan and Watlington are solidly in qualifying position on the final day to record a mark.
