NEWBURGH, NY - The Utica University women's tennis team fell 5-4 on the road to Mount Saint Mary College (NY) in non-conference play on Wednesday evening.
The Pioneers began the match with a 2-1 lead following doubles play.
Ellen Lyga (New Hartford, NY/Notre Dame) and
Paetra Heeren (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) chalked up another win as a duo after taking first doubles 8-6 while
Jackie Roberts (Herkimer, NY/Notre Dame) and
Victoria Elefante (Clinton, NY/Clinton) also came away with an 8-6 win in third doubles.
Lyga went on to control first singles 6-1, 6-1 while
Selma Dizdarevic (Utica, NY/Proctor ) walked away with a second singles win in three sets for Utica to take a 4-1 lead as a team. However, Mount Saint Mary went on to take the next three singles to even the match before taking the decisive sixth singles for the win.
Utica (1-3, 1-1 Empire 8) will return home at 1 p.m. on Saturday for an Empire 8 Conference battle against Nazareth College.
