Two School Records Fall As Pioneers Wrap Up AARTFC

SELINSGROVE, PA - The Utica University track and field teams completed competition at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships on Thursday. The Utica men placed 35th with 8 points, while the Utica women secured 18th place with 15 points.

Two school records fell over the course of the afternoon.

Jane Fahy won Utica's lone championship title of the meet on day two with a shot put mark for the ages. Fahy held total control of the field with the best mark in all six rounds of throws, including a school-record 13.84 meter heave on her final attempt to place her stamp on victory. She is now sixteenth in the nation.

Laura Meade set a new program benchmark in the heptathlon with a personal best 4,027 points to place fifth in a sixteen competitor field. Over the course of two days, she had the fastest 200 meter time in the field which netted her one of the highest single-event point hauls of the competition at 824 points. That time was a personal best along with ranking her as the third-fastest 200 meter performer in school history.

Beyond the record book, two other Pioneers scored podium finishes, including one competitor who solidified his national qualifying posture heading into tomorrow's championship selection announcement. That athlete was All-American shot putter Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College). Logan notched the second-best performance of his career, and was second in the standings with a top mark of 16.72 meters. That mark propels him to tenth in the nation.

Mackenzie Mix secured a podium position in the women's 400 hurdles as she continued her progress in that event with a personal best of 1:04.87 to place eighth and get on the podium.

In the men's high jump, Zuriel Wright (Parlin, NJ/Sayreville War Memorial) placed ninth with a top mark of 1.91 meters. In the men's triple jump, TyJon Billinger took thirteenth with a best performance of 13.65 meters, good for his second-best mark of the outdoor season.

In the women's hammer throw, Emilia Costello was 20th with a best toss of 40.48 meters.

Jonathan Simmons (Broadalbin, NY/Broadalbin-Perth) made sure to close out his outdoor season with his two best 400 hurdles performances of the year in the postseason. After setting a PR at the Empire 8 Championships, Simmons ran a time of 57.40 at the regional meet to place 25th.

At the end of competition Wednesday, Fahy, Logan, and teammate Justin Swavely (Rome, NY/RFA) stand as the three Pioneers whose seasons are most likely to continue on to the NCAA Championships. Accepted entries will be posted by 8 p.m. Friday on NCAA.com.
