CONWAY, SC - For the second time in his outdoor career and third time total,
Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) captured All-American honors following his sixth place finish in the shot put (16.97m) at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday from Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Logan previously garnered All-American honors following the 2021-2022 indoor season and the 2022 outdoor season.
Competing in the first flight, Logan opened up with a season best throw of 16.97m to sit atop the leaderboard among the other 10 athletes in the flight. Despite a fault on his second attempt, he remained ahead of the pack thanks to his initial throw of nearly 17 meters.
Logan geared up for his third attempt after having been knocked down to second by Ben Youngworth of Wisconsin La Crosse and his throw of 17.14m. He went on to reach 16.83m on his third go-around while his top mark of 16.97m kept him in second place entering the second flight.
Following the first attempt for the 11 athletes in the second flight, Logan slipped down to fourth and remained there after the second attempt of flight two. At the completion of the second flight, Logan held onto fourth place to advance to the finals along with eight others.
Logan's first attempt of the finals resulted in a fault however, he remained in fourth place going into his next attempt. Before his fifth throw that resulted in a fault, Logan was passed in the standings as he moved down one spot to fifth.
Before his final toss, Logan was bumped once more to go into sixth place. He was called for a fault on his sixth attempt but had sixth place secured to capture All-American honors.
The men's team completes its trip to nationals with five points while its final placement will be determined on Saturday evening at the conclusion of the championships.
