ROCHESTER, NY -
Norman Booth (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) has been selected as this week's Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week for a stunning Saturday performance in the Pioneers' tight loss vs Moravian this past weekend. His award win marks 2 honors in 2 weeks for the Pioneer football team after
Matt Brantley's (Rochester, NY/Eastridge) award win last week.
Booth, one of the Pioneer captains, put in a massive performance during the week 2 matchup. The defensive signal-caller was absolutely everywhere for a Pioneer defense that managed to cause 3 turnovers during Saturday's game against the Greyhounds. Booth was involved in 2 of those 3 plays, recovering the 1st fumble and housing it for a 76-yard scoop n' score, then landing a well-placed punch-out to cause a fumble later in the game. The senior from Schenectady ended the action with 6 tackles in addition to a forced fumble and a 76-yard fumble recovery touchdown.
Booth's total tallies on the year include 12 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a sack, 2 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery on the 76-yard house call.
Booth's honor is his first weekly award of the 2024 season. Booth and the Pioneers will be back at the Gaet' this weekend for a throw-down with Lycoming College on Saturday. That game begins at 12:00 PM.
