Alaina Weaver (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit) and Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) have been named the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for the week of September 16th - 22nd. 

Weaver was selected for her outstanding performance this past Saturday at the Empire 8 Championships. Weaver, a Pioneer newcomer participating in her first career meet, tied for 4th overall and shot a +19. This extraordinary outing led her to capture the Empire 8 Rookie of the Meet Award for the Invitational, an incredible achievement for the young golfer from nearby Sauquoit in her first ever career meet.
 
Melita was chosen for his performance in this past Saturday's Hamilton Invitational, a race which saw the sophomore sensation finish in 6th with a finish time of 15:42. Melita has been on a tear this year, capturing the Empire 8 Runner of the Week Award during the week of September 2nd. The Johnstown, NY native has reached another level early on in the fall and will look to build upon his success in the weeks to come.
 
Weaver will return to the green later this week when women's golf travels to the Partridge Run Golf & Country Club on Thursday for the SUNY Canton Kangaroos Invitational. They will also be in action the following day, Friday, at the SUNY Poly Invitational.

Melita and the cross country squad will head to Rochester this weekend for their next race at University of Rochester on Saturday.
