CORTLAND, NY - Utica University's women's golf team traveled to the Cortland Country Club over the weekend, competing in SUNY Cortland's Martin/Wallace Invitational. In a field of 10 teams, the Pioneers came in eighth, with all four active golfers placing between 30th and 41st individually. The Pioneers return to action next weekend in the NWGC Championship.
Utica was individually led by
Claire Draper (Watertown, NY/Watertown), who shot +55 across the two rounds. She shot +29 on day one and +26 on day two, the only Pioneer with a round better than +30, to rank 30th.
Paige Graves (Syracuse, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) finished the next highest, at 37th overall, with rounds of +42 and +30.
Jordan Dorrity (Constableville, NY/South Lewis Central) and
Emily Elwood (DeRuyter, NY/DeRuyter Central) finished out the orange and blue's participants, finishing 39th and 41st with two-day scores of +79 and +84, respectively. Dorrity shot +45 in her opening round and +34 in the closer, while Elwood shot rounds of +40 and +44.
Over the two-day event, the Pioneers scored 866 as a team: 444 on day one and 422 on day two. The score was good for eighth-best, following Nazareth (813), but ahead of Albertus Magnus (872) and William Smith (902). Ithaca College won the event with rounds of 315 and 327, totaling 642 overall. Ithaca's Annelise Stencel, a sophomore, won the individual scoring with rounds of +6 and +3. She edged out her runner-up by just one stroke, standing as the only competitor to shoot better than +10.
The orange and blue return to action next Sunday and Monday, April 19th and 20th, when the squad competes in the Northeast Women's Golf Conference Championship. Teams will travel to Van Patten Golf Club in Clifton Park for the event. Tee times are set to begin as soon as 12:00 pm on Sunday and 9:00 am on Monday.
