Preston Brighton (Castle Rock, CO) and
Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) have been named the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for December 8th.
Brighton was the catalyst in the Pioneers' 5-3 over Oswego State this past Saturday, netting the game winning goal while also grabbing an assist to finish with a two-point night. The Pioneers' defensive captain netted the decisive score with 10 minutes remaining in the final period of play, also making sure to keep that lead thanks to his powerful defensive play. Brighton was the biggest star in the win over Division III's 4th-ranked team.
Suppa made her presence on the track known in her debut for the Pioneers, posting a new school, facility, and Empire 8 record in the 60m hurdles. In the prelims, Suppa managed to shatter the school record with a time of 8.75 seconds, and followed that performance up with a massive 8.69 second effort in the finals. The previous school record was set back in 2013 with a time of 9.03 seconds, while the Empire 8 record of 8.72 was set last season.Â
