Men's Indoor Track & Field Readies For Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's indoor track and field team is set to host the Pioneer Fast Trax Invitational on Saturday, February 22. Start time inside the Todd & Jenn Hutton Sports & Recreation Center is set for 2 p.m.

Players of the Week: Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) was named Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week, announced by the league on Monday. Logan placed first overall in shot put with a 16.29m throw. This throw landed Logan ranked 13th in the country. This was Logan's third athlete of the week selection this season.
 
Taking Strides- Last week at the DIII Elite Meet, Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) ran a number two all-time mile last week with a time of 4:18:78. This landed him in fourth place overall. Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) took fifth place overall and third all-time in the 200m with a time of 22.47. Warren is also currently 26th in the country for the 400m. Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) also competed in the 200m, taking eighth place in program history with a 22.75 run. Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) competed as well, placing seventh scoring a time of 22.62. The distance medley relay team of Melita, Anthony Leotta (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills West), Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park), and Eddy Corporan (Poughkeepsie, NY/Roy C Ketcham) sit at 29th in the nation with a time of 10:27:89.
 
In the Field- Last week at the DIII Elite Meet, Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) continued to perform, registering a 16.95m weight throw, placing third overall while also improving on his number two all-time standing in the event. Billie Mays III (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) took ninth place in shot put with a 13.56m throw. Jack Rathburn (Clarendon Hills, IL/Westmont) placed 11th in pole vault, scoring a height of 4.03m. Urgent also performed in the long jump, he placed third in the event with a distance of 6.91m.
 
Who's Attending: The schools that will be competing include Hamilton, Cobleskill, Vassar, RPI, MVCC, Sage, Hartwick, and SUNY ESF.
 
Up Next: Utica hosts the Empire 8 Indoor Championships on Friday, February 28 at 3 p.m. and Saturday, March 1 at 10 a.m.
