ROCHESTER, NY – At the end of the winter sports season, the Utica Pioneers are currently ranked sixth in the Empire 8 Commissioner's Cup standings. Utica Athletics rapidly ascended the rankings thanks to some remarkable accomplishments by the winter teams.
 
Commissioner Cup points are awarded based on each team's regular season and postseason results. A team's regular season finish and postseason finish will be added together. That total is then divided by two for the final score for that sport.
 
This year, the Pioneers won the Empire 8 Men's Basketball Championship for the second year in a row, on top of winning the UCHC Men's Hockey Regular Season trophy. Hunter Logan also achieved his fourth-straight Empire 8 Title in the shot-put during the Indoor Championships. This earned them a percentage total of 0.492, landing them in sixth place in the conference, trailing right behind Houghton University.
 
The Pioneers will look for a big spring season, with the potential to climb to the top of the leaderboards in the event that they see some deep postseason runs.
