CORTLAND, NY - The Utica outdoor men's track & field team completed day one at the Cortland Classic on Friday evening.
Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) placed second overall in hammer throw and stamped a school record with a 57.49m throw. He outlasted
Spencer Borghardt's (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) record of 55.34m from last week.
Borghardt placed fourth overall in hammer throw with a 55.33m throw.
Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) placed first and is now second all-time in program history with a 7.15m long jump. He has placed first in two of the last three meets in long jump in the outdoor season.
Patrick Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) is 12 all-time with a 6.60m long jump, best for eighth overall.
The 4x400m team of
Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel),
Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker),
Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park) and
Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) placed third overall and stamped a 3:18.57. That time qualifies the team for regionals (AARTFC).
Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) placed first in the 5000m at Cortland for the second consecutive outdoor season. Melita ran the race in 15:29.17.
Tobias Jeralds (Canaan, NY/Chatham Central) took first place in the 3000m steeplechase, clocking in at 10:00.42.
Anthony Leotta (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollows Hills West) placed second and ran the event in 10:23.31.
