UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's track and field team will be heading to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute to take part in the RPI Capital District Classic on Friday April 25. Start time is set for 2pm.

Last Week's Top Performers: Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) placed first in Cortland and is now second all-time in program history with a 7.15m long jump. He has placed first in two of the last three meets in long jump in the outdoor season. The 4x400m team of Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel), Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker), Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park) and Urgent placed third overall and stamped a 3:18.57. That time qualifies the team for regionals (AARTFC). Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) placed first in the 5000m at Cortland for the second consecutive outdoor season. Melita ran the race in 15:29.17.
Two for Talbot: Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) placed second overall in hammer throw and stamped a school record with a 57.49m throw. This earned him Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this year.
Ranked Athletes: Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) is currently 17th in the nation in the 3000 steeplechase event. Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) ranks 21st in the nation in long jump with a distance of 7.15m. Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) is also ranked nationally, sitting at 24th in shot put with a toss of 15.97m. The Pioneers have two nationally ranked athletes in the hammer throw event, with Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) being 18th with a score of 57.49m and Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) sitting at 30th with a toss of 55.34m.
Next Up: The Empire 8 Outdoor Championships will be hosted by Brockport next week on Friday May 2 and Saturday May 3.
