Men's Outdoor Track and Field Set for Hamilton Invite

UTICA, NY - The Utica University men's outdoor track and field team is set to compete in the Hamilton Outdoor Invitational, hosted by nearby Hamilton College. Start time from Clinton, NY on Friday, April 4 is set for 3pm.

Last Time Out: Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) started the morning with a first-place finish in the hammer throw (52.71m). His mark came during the second flight which is a new personal record and is second all-time in program history. Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) placed first overall in the 400m with a 49.79, best for third all-time in program history.  Evan Smith (Baldwinsville, NY/Baker) placed second with a 51.38 run and Tristan Vargo (East Aurora, NY/Orchard Park) completed the race in fourth, stamping a 52.10. In the 200m, Andy Hadasz (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro)  placed first overall, running a 21.88. Flynn also ran the 200m and took second overall (22.02) which is third all-time in program history. Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) placed first overall in shot put with a 15.97m throw. Haeffer took sixth (11.80m) and McNeil placed seventh (11.40m). Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) placed second in the hammer throw with a 50.35m throw and Eddie Haeffer (Sound Beach, NY/Miller Place) took 10th (35.66m). Kaiden McCaskill (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) placed first in the high jump with a 1.84m leap. Theodore Tsamis (Richmondville, NY/Cobleskill-Richmondville) placed fifth and Cooper Jones (Rio Rancho, NM/Rio Rancho) took sixth. Tsamis recorded a 1.69m jump and Jones had a 1.64m jump. Matthew Martinez (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) took third overall in pole vault (3.70), Tsamis placed fourth (3.55m) and Brady Szekeres took fifth (3.55m). Patrick Wands (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) placed fifth in long jump (6.36m) and Robert Lowry IV (Rochester, NY/Hilton) placed right behind in sixth with a 6.34m jump.
 
Athlete of the Week: Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) captured Empire 8 Outdoor Field Athlete of the week, as announced by the league on Monday. Borghardt captured first place out of 17 throwers in hammer throw at the Utica Almost Spring Invite. His 52.71m toss is now the second-best all-time in program history.
 
Qualifiers: Four Pioneers have now qualified for the AARTFC Regional Championship in Andy Hadaz, Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College), Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's), and Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy). In the 200m, Hadaz's time of 21.88 last time out was good enough to hit the qualifying time. Logan has continued his dominance in the shot put, where Logan collected his first win in the event this season with a 15.97m throw. Borghardt has qualified with his 52.71m throw in the hammer, and Talbot has also qualified after his 50.25m toss in the same event. 
 
All-Timers: Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) ran his way into third place on the all time leaderboards in both the 200m and the 400m, with a second place finishing time of 22.02 in the 200m and a first place finish of 49.79 in the 400m. Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) has now moved into fourth place all time in the hammer throw after his 50.25m performance last time out. Matthew Martinez (Ilion, NY/Central Valley Academy) has cracked into the top 10 with his 3.70m pole vault last time out, which was good enough to collect a third place finish last weekend. 
 
Up Next: The team returns home to host its final home meet of the season, the Pioneer Spring Invitational. The two day event will begin on Friday, April 11 with the javelin throw, and will continue on Saturday, April 12 at 10am with the remainder of the events.
