Track & Field Tallies Nine USTFCCCA All-Region Performers

NEW ORLEANS, LA - As the outdoor track and field season draws to a close, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced this year's All-Region honorees, of which nine Pioneers made the cut. Each member of the All-Region team showed individual excellence in their various events, ranking among some of the top performers in the Niagara Region. Here are this season's top performers in the region.

Spencer Borghardt (Melville, NY/St.Anthony's) | Junior | Hammer Throw (Best: 57.02m)

Borghardt bagged a series of impressive marks in the hammer throw during what was his junior campaign, routinely achieving top-5 finishes and blowing away the competition along with the Pioneers' other two hammer specialists in Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) and Blake Gannon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen). Borghardt steadily improved over time as the season progressed, eventually ascending to his peak form at the AARTFC Regional Championships that capped off his junior year. Starting with a 52.71m toss all the way back during the Utica Almost Spring Invite in late March, Borghardt eventually boosted his distance a considerable amount by season's end, surpassing his limits and logging a long of 57.02m during the AARTFC meet. This distance got Borghardt the bronze at the Regional Championships, a spectacular feat to cap off the year.

Hunter Logan (Fort Plain, NY/Herkimer College) | Graduate Student | Shot Put (Best: 16.30m)

Logan completed his Pioneer career in a very similar fashion to how he started: blowing away any and all competitors during the shot put. Logan excelled in the event all season long, landing a bevy of long shots to continually capture first in every outing. This dominance continued at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships, where Logan achieved a career sweep of the event, capturing his fourth Empire 8 Outdoor Men's Shot Put Championship to give him an outrageous eighth individual Empire 8 Title (four indoor, four outdoor). Logan's longest toss came at the RPI Capital District Classic, when he launched a season-best 16.30m. The strongman's legendary career came to a close at the AARTFC Regional Championships, where he bolstered his unfathomable resume with a bronze medal, achieving third in the shot put thanks to a 16.07 launch.

Bennett Melita (Johnstown, NY/Fonda Fultonville) | Sophomore | Steeplechase (Best: 9:04.76)

Melita continued to build on his legendary long-distance career in only his second year with the Pioneers. After becoming the first ever runner in men's cross country history to reach the National Championships, Melita carried this success over to the track season, producing standout tries and record-breaking performances on the regular in a multitude of different long-distance events. His best event in the spring was the 3000m steeplechase, a race in which he continued to excel over the season. He started out fast with a time of 9:08.30 at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational on April 4th, and spent the majority of the month trying to break this season-best mark. Melita eventually broke through at the final meet of the season, notching a new personal best along with a school record after recording a time of 9:04.76 at the AARTFC Regional Championships. This time landed him a third-place finish and generated even more hype for the few years to come in his career at Utica.

Louis Pinto (Clinton, NY/Clinton) | Junior | High Jump (Best: 1.96m)

Pinto skyrocketed his high jump skill during this past spring, elevating his game with each and every outing. His spring season began at the Hamilton College Continental Invitational on April 4th when he earned a top jump of 1.85m. Over the next month, he would rapidly increase his height, achieving a 1.94m leap at the Cortland Classic midway through April before having his crowning moment at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships a few weeks later. On the big stage, Pinto put in his best effort of the year, recording a season-best mark of 1.96m, which was good enough to top the entire conference. This effort allowed the junior jumper to take home the 2025 Empire 8 Outdoor Men's High Jump Championship, a great accomplishment for the athlete to carry into his senior season.

Joshua Talbot (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) | Junior | Hammer Throw (Best: 57.49m)

Talbot threw his way into the upper echelon of the Niagara Region hammer ranks thanks to some standout outings in the Spring. He competed at a plethora of events during the outdoor season, tossing well in each and every one of them. Along with Borghardt and Blake Gannon (Schenectady, NY/Mohonasen), Talbot formed a trifecta that hogged the top-5 at nearly every event. This included the junior hurler achieving a third-place finish at the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships, attaining bronze after chucking a long of 55.74m. This was far from his best showing of the spring, through, which was reserved for his throw at the Cortland Classic. At the event, Talbot attained a season-best throw of 57.49m, solidifying his spot in the All-Region ranks.

Ellis Urgent (Cornwall, NY/Cornwall Central) | Freshman | Long Jump (Best: 7.24m)

Urgent burst onto the scene in his debut season with the Pioneers, immediately slotting in as the lead long jumper for the team. The rookie had a raucous spring, rapidly improving with each and every jump. Urgent's first spring outing saw him produce a long of 8.80m at the Hamilton College Continental Invite, a distance that he would leave in the dust over the next few weeks. His next two competitions saw him produce long leaps of 6.89m and 7.15m respectively, showcasing his immediate growth in the event. At the Empire 8 Championships, Urgent accomplished his best feat of the season, recording a legendary leap of 7.24m to beat out the rest of the competition and take home the Empire 8 Outdoor Men's Long Jump Championship in just his first year of collegiate competition. Urgent's jump also slotted in as a new school record, beating out the previous record set by Rob Tutein by just 0.01m, with the previous mark being 7.23m. The future is extremely bright for Urgent as he has many years to build upon that record.

Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) | Sophomore | High Jump (Best: 1.63m)

Allison brought her A-game in her high jump journey this season, steadily improving while rapidly climbing the program leaderboards for the event. Allison had a season-high leap of 1.63m at the Utica Pioneer Spring Invite back in early April, notching a personal record for the local product. This jump broke the program's women's high jump record for the final time this season, as Allison had been raising the bar with each successful jump after setting the record last season with a 1.60m jump in her debut season. Allison will look to keep moving the bar during the next few seasons as a part of a special group of sophomore athletes.

Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) | Senior | Triple Jump (Best: 11.29m)

Devitt had an exciting end to her senior season, excelling in the triple jump during the final few meets of her Pioneer career. The jump specialist had competitive outings at both the AARTFC Championships and the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships, recording leaps of 10.75m and 11.02m, respectively, at each meet. Devitt's crowing moment was her jump at the RPI Capital District Classic Invitational back in late April, where she had a season-best jump of 11.29m This mark allowed her to be placed on the All-Region list, giving her some great recognition during her senior campaign.

Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) | Sophomore | Heptathlon (Best: 4139 points)

The Pioneers' all-around ace Grimaldi had a strong end to her sophomore season over the past few weeks, showing out at some big-time events to produce high marks and record-breaking performances. At the Empire 8 Championships, Grimaldi starred in each of her seven events, using some top finishes to take home the 2025 Empire 8 Outdoor Heptathlon Championship, a remarkable achievement in just her second year at the collegiate level. Grimaldi followed this up by turning in an outstanding two-day stretch at the AARTFC Regional Championships, recording season-bests in the 200m (28.11), 800m (2:43.12), 100m hurdles (15.81), high jump (1.47m), long jump (5.37m), javelin (33.06m), and the heptathlon as a whole to achieve a new school record. After attaining season-bests in six of the seven heptathlon events during the final meet of the season, Grimaldi will look to push that new school record even further next year.
