UTICA, NY - Utica University's men's and women's golf teams will continue their seasons by competing in the SUNY Poly Invitational. The event will be hosted at Teugaga Country Club in Rome, NY. This will be the women's team's first action of the 2025-26 season.
The SUNY Poly Invitational: The last time that Utica golf participated in a tournament at Teugaga was on September 25, 2023, in that fall season's SUNY Poly Invitational. At the event, the men's team placed 3rd out of six teams, finishing +48 overall. The women placed 1st out of three teams, finishing +86 overall, 37 strokes better than the 2nd-place-finishing SUNY Cobleskill Fighting Tigers. Of Utica's five men's golfers in the 2023 event, three of them will be returning to the team this season.
Neil Roman (Oswego, NY/Oswego) turned in the best scorecard of the day for the Pioneers, finishing +9.
Carter Lathrop (Walworth, NY/Gananda) and
Aydin Parekh (Nobleton, Ontario/Blyth Academy), the other two returners, each finished the day +15.
Paige Graves (Syracuse, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius), who scored a +26 in the event, just one more than her career record, is the only player from that tournament who is still with the program.
The First Tee: The men's team began its season last week with a three-team home meet.The Pioneers finished +30 overall, 24 strokes lower than SUNY Delhi's team and 50 strokes lower than the SUNY Poly Wildcats' finish. Utica had seven golfers compete in the event, with five of them placing in the top six overall. Adam DeGregory took the event as an individual, scoring +3 on the par 71 course.
Koltin Pickell (Ellenville, NY/Ellenvlle) finished second with a +6 scorecard, followed by a tie for third between Ayden Parekh and Delhi golfer Parker Flanigan with +7 finishes.
Up Next: Both teams will take just over a week off before traveling to Penn Yan, NY to compete in the Keuka College Fall Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am at the Lakeside Country Club.
