UTICA, NY - Utica University's men's and women's golf teams traveled to Rome, NY to compete in the SUNY Poly Invitational. The event was hosted at Teugega Country Club, with pars of 71 for the men, and 73 for the women on the 5,550-yard course. Junior
Aydin Parekh (Nobleton, Ontario/Blyth Academy) led the way for the Pioneers, winning the individual scoring among men. As a team, the men's squad finished second of seven times, falling just one stroke behind Nazareth, the winner of the team scoring. Utica placed behind St. Lawrence in the women's event, with two top-five finishes.
Five male Pioneers competed in the event. Parekh won the event as an individual, turning in a +3 scorecard that saw three birdies and an on-par back nine.
Koltin Pickell (Ellenville, NY/Ellenvlle) was the second-highest-placing Pioneer, finishing third overall with a +5 round.
Adam Degregory (Saratoga Springs, NY/Schuylerville) and Louis Roman rounded out Utica's team scoring, as the two both finished +8, tying for an eighth overall finish.
Daniel Maloney (Syracuse, NY/Living Word Academy) turned in a +14 scorecard as the final Utica participant, including a birdie on the 18th hole. Four of Utica's male golfers achieved a birdie on the 18th hole, with the final Pioneer still achieving par.
Freshman
Claire Draper (Watertown, NY/Watertown) led the women in her Utica debut. Finishing third overall with a +13 round, Draper came out hot, earning a birdie on hole one, followed by two pars.
Alaina Weaver (Sauquoit, NY/Sauquoit Valley Central) and
Jordan Dorrity () tied for a fifth place finish with +21 rounds.
Paige Graves (Syracuse, NY/Fayetteville-Manlius) turned in a +24 scorecard to round out Utica's team scoring.
Emily Elwood () was the final Utica participant, finishing +34 on the day.
Both teams will take just over a week off before traveling to Penn Yan, NY to compete in the Keuka College Fall Invitational. The event is scheduled to begin at 10 am at the Lakeside Country Club.
