Indoor Track and Field Completes Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge

BOSTON, MA - Several athletes from Utica University's indoor track and field teams competed at the Suffolk Ice Breaker at the TRACK at New Balance in Boston, MA on Sunday. 

On the men's side, Cade Tavares (Endicott, NY/Union-Endicott) took fourth place in his heat in the 60m hurdles prelims with a time of 9.10. In the 400m open, Riley Smith (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland Central) managed an 18th place finish with a time of 53.34. In the 1,000m, Timothy Jeralds (Canaan, NY/Chatham Central) finished with a time of 2:42.18. In the 200m invitational, Nolan Flynn (Bethel, CT/Bethel) and Tanner Warren (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) took seventh and eighth in the event, respectively with Flynn running a 22.22 and Warren clicking in at 22.27. In the 3,000m Killian Bauer (Verona, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherill) took 16th place with a time of 8:54.81. 

In the field events, Wayne Spencer (Rochester, NY/Padilla (Franklin Campus)) and Justin Couture (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) managed top 10 finishes in the triple jump, with Spencer leaping his way to a fourth place 13.31m, and Couture a ninth place 12.79m. 

On the women's side, Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) kicked off the day with a 9.17 effort in the 60m hurdles, advancing to the finals where she posted a 10.18. In the mile, Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished with a time of 5:32.55. In the 400m invitational, Jade Bailey (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) managed a 13th place time of 1:04.11. In the 400m open, Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) finished just outside the top 15 with a time of 1:11.21. In the 800m, Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) managed a time of 2:28.43. In the 200m invitational, Suppa continued her day with a top 10 finish clocking in at 26.395. In the 200m open, Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel) and Arianna McClendon (Rome, NY/New York Mills) managed top finishes with Williams winning the event with a time of 25.78 and McClendon clocking in at 26.36 in seventh place. In the 3,000m Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) clocked a 10:26.72 to finish in 12th place. 

The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, January 24 as the team travels to Ithaca, NY to take on the Ithaca Invitational. Start time is set for 10am.
