UTICA, NY - The Empire 8 has named its weekly men's golf award winners, with Utica University sophomore Koltin Pickell (Ellenville, NY/Ellenvlle) earning Golfer of the Week recognition. Pickell led the Pioneers across two events during the week, including an individual title at the SUNY Poly Invitational and another top-five finish in a home dual match against SUNY Delhi.

Pickell and the Pioneers stayed close to home in two events over the past week, competing in the SUNY Poly Invitational on Monday and hosting SUNY Delhi in a dual match on Thursday. The Invitational proved to be a historic day for Utica golf, as the team turned in the lowest combined team score among available records. Leading the way, and placing 1st among 26 golfers, was Pickell with an even scorecard on the 6,472-yard, par-70 Teugega Country Club course. The sophomore birdied the opening hole, gave the stroke back on the third, and then closed his round with 15 consecutive pars. Pickell again led the Pioneers in the match with Delhi, shooting +6 on the 6,792-yard, par-71 layout at Yahnundasis Golf Club, good for a tie for 4th individually.

The honor adds another strong result to Pickell's sophomore campaign and comes after a week in which he paced Utica in both events. The Pioneers will return to action on October 11th and 12th at the Empire 8 Fall Championship, hosted at Lake Shore Yacht & Country Club in Cicero, NY.
