Brady Leichtman (Bay Shore, NY/St. John the Baptist Diocesan) and
Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) have been named the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for the week of March 30th.
Stuhlman and the Pioneers took home two wins last week, defeating Elmira College 20-1 on the road on Wednesday, before opening Empire 8 conference play with a 13-7 home win over Nazareth University. At the top of the stat sheet was junior standout
Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), who turned in the two best performances of her career. She capped last week with a six-point game, the fifth of her career, before heating up with games of seven and eight points in this week's games, both career firsts. In the victory over the Soaring Eagles, she netted five goals and assisted another two before achieving both four goals and four assists against the Golden Flyers.
Stuhlman and the women's lacrosse team will hit the road this Wednesday to take on St. John Fisher in a massive matchup, before returning this Saturday to battle Keuka College on Senior Day.
The freshman hurler Leichtman had an otherworldly outing in his Empire 8 debut this past weekend, completely shutting down an Elmira offense that had been hot, as he helped the Pioneers secure a Sunday sweep by a 12-1 final. Leichtman went the full seven innings in his start, securing the win thanks to his nearly untouchable nature on the mound. The Bay Shore native allowed just a single hit and a single run over the seven-inning stretch, also striking out 10 batters in a superb showing of pitching dominance.Â
Leichtman and the baseball team will be back in action this Wednesday when they head to Russell Sage for a standalone matchup against the Gators. That contest begins at 3:00 PM. The Pioneers will also head to Alfred University this weekend for a three-game set against the Saxons up at the new Saxon Hill Athletic Complex.
